Cleaning Is One Of My Downfalls

I really just hate cleaning. The bathroom, the kitchen, the laundry, the closets...I hate it all. And yet, there's no escaping it. But the effects of not cleaning are beginning to invade my life. And so, one my goals for 2013 (complete list coming soon!) is to implement and stick to a cleaning schedule.

Growing up, I've always had a messy bedroom, and when I married a man with the same bad habits as mine, our apartment exploded with piles everywhere. Paper, clothes, boxes, bags...you name it. It's pretty bad. And so, at 25 years old, we are resorting to a grown-up chore chart.

Inspired by the two images above, I created a realistic cleaning schedule for Mike and I. The goal is that one room gets cleaned each day of the week, and then weekends will simply involve some light clean-up. Weekdays might be busy, but I'd rather have a relaxing weekend then have to spend my two days off cleaning every room in my apartment (kill me now, because that sounds like torture...which is exactly the reason our place is so messy all the time). I kept our work schedules and other commitments in mind, so that we can clean our smaller, less messy rooms on our busier days.
You're probably thinking "Hmm, Stace, this is really just common sense," and "Didn't your mothers teach you guys this when you were young?" Trust me. Our mothers are not to blame. I just think everyone has one or two areas where they "let go" on common sense routines, and the area of cleaning is just that for Mike and me.

Hopefully this schedule (which is hanging in plain sight in our kitchen) will help us stay on top of everything so that, if for no other reasons, Sully can run around in more than just a designated path, and family & friends can stop by unannounced without us having to excessively apologize for the mess.

That being said, family & friends: visitors are welcome! We really do love to entertain and can't wait to get into a house with more space someday! Be prepared to play board games and card games...but be warned, we play to win ;)
